Integrating wind into the power grid

One of the key challenges facing renewables and the wind industry in particular is the integration of wind energy into the electricity grid from both on and offshore wind farms. Today, this requires wind power plants to have a host of grid support functions such as frequency and voltage control, power balancing and black-start capabilities. However, over time, it will be necessary for these functions to be integrated into grid operation processes, if wind is to become a trusted energy resource capable of supporting power system stability and reliability. ABB is in the process of further developing and testing support functions to ensure that the necessary technologies are available as soon as possible.

Optimizing wind energy systems

Another challenge is the maintenance and optimization of wind energy systems. Here, it is essential to increase kilowatt-hour production, improve reliability, and reduce cost of energy. Here, the power of digital technologies is a key enabler because the most effective and efficient solution to this challenge is an industrial digital platform capable of hosting monitoring, analytics and control technologies. Combined with modern sensors and communication systems, such a platform can harness an increasing amount of data from a diverse portfolio of renewable assets, giving wind operators a real-time perspective of operations at every level, from the wind turbines, to the power substation, to the grid connection.

By employing solutions base on data analytics and artificial intelligence, it is possible to continuously optimize power yields, understand the condition of equipment and thereby extend its lifecycle, paving the way for wind to become a cost effective energy resource and therefore an integral part of a European power grid.

Services Capability

A Long-Term Commitment Arka Automaations Ltd is manufacturing wind turbines, but our commitment to our customers doesn’t end once the turbines are delivered. We offer Operations and Maintenance (O&M) packages that are tailored to each customer’s needs. That means we can monitor performance to ensure availability of the turbines and maximize green energy production for India. It also allows us to prevent incidents before they occur and minimize downtime when they do. Continuous Support Arka Automaations Ltd’s global wind workforce stands behind every project by providing onsite personnel and remote monitoring and resets by technology experts.

Customer support centre—remote monitoring and troubleshooting

Our Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics centres in Schenectady, USA and Salzbergen, Germany are staffed by highly trained wind technicians who provide support for our installed fleet of wind turbines around the world 365 days a year. The customer support centres are able to quickly perform remote resets for more than 250 types of turbine fault. Arka Automaations Ltd’s on-call qualified technology experts provide one of the most effective ways to continuously monitor customer wind assets and reset faults.

Operations and maintenance support

Driven by a highly skilled workforce and the operating knowledge gleaned from a global 1.5 MW turbine fleet, GE offers a wide range of services tailored to the operation and maintenance needs of our Indian customers’ wind assets. Our offerings include remote monitoring and fault resets, on-site personnel for manual resets, proactive fleet availability analysis and availability guarantees.

Solar Energy

Arka Automaations Ltd offers the industry' s most comprehensive portfolio of products, systems, solutions and services to optimize the performance, reliability and return on investment of any solar installation - from residential rooftops to commercial and industrial applications and utility-grade power plants.

Optimized energy harvesting

Arka Automaations Ltd' s offering for residential applications, including string inverters, low-voltage products and energy storage systems come together to enable consumers to maximize energy harvest and optimize self- consumption while ensuring the installed system is fully coordinated, and compliant, with the local grid.

The Arka Automaations Ltd product range includes circuit breakers, metering devices, voltage & current sensors, remote switching contactors, consumer units and enclosures suitable for outdoor installation, all specially designed for these applications. Arka Automaations Ltd can also provide a series of “plug & play” solutions.

The energy storage system has been designed for a long life-cycle with a ten year expected life of the battery. The solution can also be expanded by additional battery modules to up to 6 kWh of usage energy. Due to the integrated Ethernet port, the energy storage system allows for remote or local monitoring without requiring any additional interfaces.

Symphony Plus for Solar

The SCADA system is designed for monitoring all key plant components, from PV panels (with and without tracking systems) to the inverters, transformers and switchgear, grid connection and meteorological stations. It supports a broad range of communication protocols like Modbus TCP, OPC, IEC 6087-5-104, enabling it to connect and exchange data with all plant components. With a real-time database and a historian, relevant plant data can be acquired and either stored on site, or forwarded to a remote management center. The system also features the capability to monitor and control plant and substation equipment using the IEC 61850 protocol, enabling Arka Automaations Ltd’s solution to integrate generation and electrical components into a single information and control system. Continuous Support

Arka Automaations Ltd' s global wind workforce stands behind every project by providing onsite personnel and remote monitoring and resets by technology experts.

Thanks to a high-performance controller connected to all relevant actuators, the system manages active and reactive power, power factor and also provides voltage and frequency control.
